Huntington Park Senior Lunch Wellness Program
Project Budget: $20,000
City of Huntington Park, Parks and Recreation
The Senior Lunch Wellness Program will provide healthy meals to senior citizens, promote healthy eating habits while providing a friendly environment to reduce social isolation. The City of Huntington Park has a population of about 60,000 residents with the majority of the residents being of Latino/Hispanic descent. 7% of our residents are over the age of 65 and 29% of our residents are under the poverty line.
We are in the process of partnering with Human Services Association (HSA) to provide seniors congregate meals at Huntington Park Community Center. The Community Center currently has programming for seniors 3 times a week and the new goal is to implement and provide a healthy meal5 times a week. By partnering with HSA we would be able to have the community center open Monday thru Friday all while simultaneously being able to provide a healthy meal to our seniors and alleviate the financial stressors associated with securing their own meals.
